This is a photo of a small town in southwest Germany called Rodalben. Our family lived here from 1965-1970 while my dad was in the air force. This was and from what I see on the Internet today, a great little town. During world war II Rodalben was the center of the German boot making industry and as a result got quite a bit of attention from allied bombers. I have some absolutely fantastic memories from this place and hope to someday return.

Dreaming of warmer weather and drives in the country. I know it sounds cheesey but hey, it’s winter and I am tired of cold.

My father has been retired from the Air Force for more than 30 years but as a retiree he still has access to the military exchange system. Every once in a while I go with them to Fort Campbell to the post exchange and the commissary. There is always a great selection of foods that you would find overseas but not in Kroger or Wal-Mart or any other major U.S. supermarket chain.
Anyway, being a military brat who spent the biggest part of his childhood in Italy and Germany, I became hooked on certain foods. While at the commissary I went down the aisle with all the German sweets…………. ah this is some good stuff, especially the cookies and the cheeses. Here are couple photos I snapped with my mobile phone to capture the moment. If you like German cookies and candies and other foods let me know your favorite.

I made two visits to Mobassa, Kenya in East Africa in 1982 and 1983. This photo is of the bank where I made my money exchanges. As with most third world countries American dollars are highly sought after and competition for good exchange rates is very good. One can exchange on the streets but there was a risk of getting in trouble since we were told to exchange in banks only.
Here is the Commercial Bank of Africa in downtown Mobassa, Kenya in 1983

While living in London, I was sent to Rota, Spain for several weeks of school. Talk about a nice break from cold and rainy London. Rota is on the Atlantic side of Gibraltar and the weather in March was nice and warm and sunshine everyday. I went sightseeing in the neighboring town of Cadiz, and snapped this photo with my Kodak Disc of a poster advertising a bullfighting event at the Plaza de Toros.
